Northern Lights Dazzle Across UK As Solar Activity Increases
Rare Sightings Across the Country
People across the UK were treated to a spectacular display of the Northern Lights on Friday night, with sightings reported as far south as Kent. The aurora borealis is caused by increased solar activity, which sends charged particles towards Earth's magnetic poles. When these particles interact with the Earth's atmosphere, they create the colourful light displays.
Widespread Visibility
The Northern Lights were visible across much of the UK, with reports of sightings from Scotland to Cornwall. In some areas, the aurora was so bright that it could be seen with the naked eye. The Met Office said that the display was likely to continue into the early hours of Saturday morning.
